If you see a yellow “No Internet Access” error triangle in the Windows 10 system tray and can’t connect to the internet in some apps but can browse the web as you normally would, you’ve got the bug.
Microsoft acknowledged this bug in a support forum thread and says it stems from an issue with Windows 10’s Network Connectivity Status Indicator.
They are investigating and will patch the problem when it is fixed.
However, if you are feeling adventurous, some users have already found a reliable workaround that should restore network connection for your apps in the meantime.
1. Open Registry Editor from the search results and click
“Yes” when prompted to let the app make changes.
2. In the Registry Editor app, go to
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet"
Right-click “EnableActiveProbing” and select Modify.
3. Change the “Value data” from 0 to 1.
4. Click “OK” to close the window and save your edits.
5. Close the Registry Editor.
6. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Update 8/7/2020: A fellow Windows User contacted us to tell what worked for him. While we haven’t seen the issue again and haven’t been able to test, somebody out there may find it useful. It sure is a lot easier than messing with your registry!
1. Go to the network notification.
2. Right-click and select Troubleshoot problems.
3. Choose to troubleshoot Wi-Fi only.
4. The wizard went through the automated process and the yellow triangle warning went away.
He also noticed that while the wizard was displayed, he saw messages about his wired mouse and wired
keyboard not working and then saw messages that they were fixed.
Thanks for the update!
