“US-CERT is aware of reports of a rouge cleaning tool circulating for Apple Mac OS, known as MacSweeper. When installed, this rouge software states that there are compromised files on the user’s system and that to clean or fix the files the user must purchase the software. Additionally, this rogue software may generate recurring pop-up messages that claim that the system is compromised and that the user should purchase the software again.
US-CERT strongly encourages users to install application software only from trusted sources.”
